A train carrying about three dozen cars derailed Monday in Carroll County.

Where is Glidden, Iowa, the site of a train derailment on Monday?

The train derailed east of Glidden, Iowa, a town of about 1,000 in Carroll County, around 5 p.m. on Monday, July 29. Glidden is about 60 miles west of Ames on U.S. Highway 30.

The derailment occurred on the Union Pacific Railroad.

According to a Facebook post from the city, cleanup efforts are underway.

The message stated that all border crossings would reopen from 9:30 p.m. on Monday evening.

How did the train derail in Glidden, Iowa?

The incident remains under investigation, Union Pacific Railroad spokesman Mike Jaixen told the Register in an email.

“Union Pacific crews are on scene to address the incident,” he said.

Were there any injuries or deaths in the Iowa train derailment?

No, there were no injuries in the incident.

How often do trains derail?

According to Jaixen, it is unlikely that derailments will occur.

“A Union Pacific train can travel a distance equivalent to 49 times around the Earth before it derails,” he said.
