Busy Ames intersection will be closed tonight through August 7

Nighttime traffic in Ames will be a bit more difficult next week.

Beginning Tuesday, the intersection of US 69/Lincoln Way and South Duff Avenue will be closed weeknights for construction. The closure will last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Wednesday, August 7.

The teams use the time to mill and pave the asphalt with hot asphalt.

Detour uses 2nd Street

Motorists must follow a marked detour via East 2nd Street, Des Moines Avenue, East Lincoln Way, Sumner Avenue, SE 2nd Street, South 2nd Street, and South Sherman Avenue.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reminds motorists to drive carefully and obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work zone. Traffic fines for traffic violations double in work zones.
