Deere cuts reach 2,700 in Iowa and Illinois over 10 months

Announced layoffs at John Deere have climbed to 2,701 in the last 10 months in Iowa and Illinois, with both production and salaried staff let go from the company. Of those, 1,313 are Quad-Cities jobs.

Cuts were first announced last fall when 225 were laid off at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline. Since then, the cuts have continued across Eastern Iowa and Illinois.

Monday, the agriculture giant announced an additional 134 employees were notified about upcoming layoffs at John Deere Moline Cylinder Works.

The company has cited rising costs and reduced demand for the need for layoffs, including a 20% decline in sales from 2023 to 2024. In addition, the company has said it will provide services such as payment for unused vacation and ongoing benefits for employees impacted.

John Deere ended its sponsorship of diversity events and revised training to comply with laws, facing backlash.
