Rochester volleyball community organizer convicted of sexually abusing teen – Post Bulletin

ROCHESTER — A Rochester volleyball tournament organizer accused of sexually abusing a minor on multiple occasions was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 7, in Olmsted County Superior Court.

Tommy Tongsengzeng Yang, 35, was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to court documents.

Under his guilty plea, the original charges were dropped and Yang would not serve any prison time in exchange for his confession.

District Court Judge Christa Daily sentenced Yang to two years of supervised probation and $3,373.10 in restitution. He must also register as a predatory offender.

According to the criminal complaint, Yang met a 15-year-old minor in May 2021 when the teen was playing volleyball in a community league of which Yang was one of the organizers.

The complaint alleged that he sexually assaulted the teenager on multiple occasions in public parking lots around Rochester.

According to the complaint, the teen told Yang “no” multiple times during several encounters.

The minor showed Rochester police detectives a scrape that allegedly occurred during one of the attacks, the complaint said.

Yang told detectives he knew the teen through volleyball and had once been to a baseball field with her, but he denied sexually abusing the teen.
