GREEN BAY – A former Green Bay tennis coach accused of secretly filming underskirt videos of children was hit with 12 more charges Monday.

Joshua Denault, 40, worked at Western Racquet & Fitness Club, 2500 S. Ashland Ave., in Ashwaubenon, and Four Seasons Tennis Club, 3600 Riverside Drive, Allouez — until a Brown County Sheriff’s Office investigator notified the club on May 14 that Denault was under investigation.

Denault was arrested in May on four charges: sexual exploitation of children (a Class C felony); child enticement (a Class D felony); causing mental harm to a child (a Class F felony); and recording an intimate performance (a Class I felony).

At the time, the sheriff’s office released a statement saying the investigation involved “a growing number of young victims.”

An amended criminal complaint was filed Monday, adding four counts of child sexual exploitation, child enticement and recording an intimate display. Investigators also identified four additional girls who they say Denault secretly filmed.

Denault waived his preliminary hearing in Brown County Circuit Court on Tuesday. He has an arraignment scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 7.

On May 7, a father contacted police to say his daughter had reported that her tennis coach at the Four Seasons Tennis Club had secretly recorded her, according to the original criminal complaint.

The girl told investigators that Denault had asked for her help in the storage closet the day before, pulling her away from the rest of the group. She said that as they walked toward the closet, she heard the “ding” of a recording on his phone, the complaint said. Inside the closet, Denault placed his phone on the floor in front of her, then moved one of her legs so that she was standing directly over it, the complaint said.

He then told her to go back to the tennis courts and about 10 seconds later he left the storage room, the girl said.

A sergeant with the sheriff’s office then contacted Denault at the Four Seasons Tennis Club after he had a lesson with an adult, the complaint said.

The sergeant informed Denault of the accusation against him, and Denault denied it. The officer then confiscated Denault’s cell phone, although Denault did not consent to a search of it.

On May 21, investigators obtained a search warrant for the cellphone. They found 36 videos in the phone’s “recently deleted” file of several girls standing over the camera. One of the videos matched the description of the girl who first reported the secret recording, the complaint said.

Investigators also found multiple videos on the cellphone showing Denault sexually assaulting an unconscious woman, the complaint states.

Since the original complaint was filed, four other girls have been identified in the upskirt videos and have spoken to investigators. One of the girls told investigators that Denault took her into the storage closet multiple times, but only when she was wearing shorts or a skirt, not on the days she was wearing leggings, the complaint said.

In one of the videos, an off-camera girl asked Denault about his cell phone, which was on the floor, to which Denault attempted to change the subject, the complaint states.

One girl told investigators, “Coach Denault always gave me the creeps, so I tried to stay away from him,” the amended complaint states.

The girls identified in the recordings are between the ages of 10 and 16. The videos date back more than two years.
