Bills QB Josh Allen has a curious answer to WR Stefon Diggs’ question

For four seasons, Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs served as a safety net for Josh Allen while maintaining his status as the Buffalo Bills’ top target.

En route to four playoff appearances and four Pro Bol honors, Diggs averaged 111.25 catches, 1,343 yards and 9.25 touchdowns in 17 games on the year.

That kind of production is what prompted Houston to give away valuable draft capital to acquire Diggs this offseason. It’s also an incredible amount of production that Buffalo will need to replace if it hopes to remain an AFC contender next fall.

While the Bills added receivers like Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman from Florida State, Allen will have to find a way to survive a season without Mr. Consisnecy in Orchard Park. But when asked by reporters on Wednesday if he missed Diggs by a point this summer, the Pro Bowl quarterback politely declined.

“I think Stef is a great player and what he brought to this team was special,” All said“So, ‘miss’ is, I don’t know if I would say ‘miss’, he was a reliable guy, someone you could look up to.”

Before fans panic over Allen downplaying his relationship with Diggs, he praised him and wished him the best as the new target for CJ Stroud.

“He’s going to have the juice every day — I’m sure he’s bringing it up there in Houston,” Allen said. “So you definitely can’t say you don’t miss that.”

Though they’ve been one of the NFL’s best duos over the past four years, Allen and Diggs had their share of risky moments together during their final season as the AFC East Champions. Following a Week 1 overtime loss to the New York Jets after an injury to Aaron Rodgers, Allen reportedly yelled at Diggs over his postgame comments.

During the 2022 playoffs, Diggs was seen addressing Allen from the sidelines following a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional Round.

Diggs also wasn’t happy with his role in the latter part of 2023 after putting up good numbers with Allen under former coordinator Ken Dorsey.

Sometimes divorces have to happen. It became an unhealthy mix of internal problems in the Buffalo locker room between both parties, given their tenacity and determination in the hopes of winning every game.

Diggs, who was Stroud’s top receiver early in training camp, wants to help the young player flourish, just as he helped Allen become one of the league’s best passers.

He has moved on with his life and closed the chapter of his Bills era, but he will always be an Allen fan.

“Josh was and still is my guy,” Diggs said earlier this offseason. “People don’t really understand what it’s like to be there. He really embraced me. He had that Southern hospitality. We spent a lot of time together and I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him. I got a lot of love for that kid.”

Allen and the Bills travel to NRG Stadium on October 6 to take on Diggs and the Texans.
