Additional charges filed against former HS coach previously arrested for alleged sex crimes

Maxwell Sidney Fletcher, 30, of Mount Holly, has been arrested again by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He has been charged with felony counts of second-degree forcible sexual offense and crime against nature. Fletcher was previously charged in Catawba and Lincoln County, along with Horry County, South Carolina. The previously filed charges included statutory sexual offense with a child 15 years of age or younger.

On May 15, 2024, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit opened an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against Fletcher. The suspect was a football coach at East Lincoln High School, a teacher at WC Friday School in Gaston County, and was a coach for the Dry Pond travel baseball league out of Denver, NC.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit conducted the investigation, which resulted in Mr. Fletcher being charged in Lincoln County, in Catawba County by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, and in Horry County, South Carolina by the Horry County Police Department.

As a result of the investigation, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit identified another victim in Lincoln County and began investigating alleged sexual abuse allegations against Mr. Fletcher involving an adult. This portion of the investigation was completed on July 31st and Fletcher was arrested again. He was charged with one count of a misdemeanor against nature and one count of a misdemeanor with assault in the second degree.

On July 31, Fletcher was taken into custody by the Major Crimes Unit in Mount Holly. He was arraigned before a Lincoln County magistrate and booked into the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. He was not listed as an inmate as of August 9. No upcoming court dates were listed.
