Somerset man charged in child abuse case

CINNAMINSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Police Chief William Obuchowski announced the arrest of 27-year-old Sebastian Romero of Somerset, who is facing multiple charges related to child exploitation. Romero was arrested at his home on August 2 during the execution of a search warrant, which resulted in the seizure of multiple electronic devices.

Romero is charged with producing child abuse material in the first degree, along with corrupting the morals of a child in the second degree, luring and aggravated sexual extortion. Additional charges include possession of child abuse material in the third degree and obscenity against a minor.

The investigation into Romero began last month after a report from the victim’s family to the Cinnaminson Township Police Department. It was revealed that Romero had been in contact with the underage male through an online gaming platform chat room, where he initiated sexual conversations and exchanged electronic gift cards for nude photos and videos. Romero also made threatening statements toward the victim’s family after a planned meeting fell through.

Following a detention hearing held today in Superior Court, Romero was denied release and remains in the Burlington County Jail. The case is being prepared to go before a grand jury for possible indictment. Efforts are being made to protect the victim’s identity.

  • Escaped convict captured after home invasion in Delaware

    GEORGETOWN, THE — Delaware State Police have announced the arrest of Lyndon King following a home invasion and robbery that occurred on the afternoon of August 8, 2024, in Georgetown. King, a 36-year-old escaped inmate from the Sussex Community Corrections Center, is now being held in Maryland pending extradition to Delaware.

    The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when King allegedly forced his way into a Zoar Road residence and confronted a 69-year-old woman when she arrived home. He is accused of threatening the victim, physically assaulting her and turning off the home phone to prevent a call for help.

    King then stole the victim’s cell phone and her Chevrolet Trax, fleeing the scene in his car.

    Authorities were able to track the stolen vehicle to Salisbury, Maryland, where local law enforcement agencies, including the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Salisbury Police Department, arrested King near a Staples store on North Salisbury Boulevard.

    King faces several charges upon his return to Delaware, including first-degree robbery, home invasion, first-degree burglary, terroristic threats where the victim is over 62 years of age, theft of a motor vehicle, malicious interference with emergency communications, indecent assault and criminal damage.

    HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Hudson County District Attorney Esther Suarez announced the arrest of Carlos Ruiz Castro by the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. The arrest occurred on Friday, August 9, 2024, in Hackensack, in connection with a sexual assault that occurred last month in Western New York.

    Ruiz Castro is facing multiple charges: Aggravated Sexual Assault, Kidnapping, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Sexual Assault, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, and Simple Assault. These charges range from first to third degree felonies, along with a misdemeanor of public disorder.

    The incident that led to these charges occurred in the early morning of Saturday, July 27, 2024, when a 40-year-old woman reported that an unknown man had violently grabbed her by the hair and attacked her in the area of ​​Hudson Avenue and 51st Street in West New York.

    Following his arrest, Ruiz Castro was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility to await his initial court appearance. The successful arrest was the result of the joint efforts of the Special Victims Unit, the West New York Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
