Crown suspends sex abuse charges against former Collège Béliveau gym teacher – Winnipeg Free Press

Prosecutors have dropped sex crime charges against a former Louis Riel School Division gym teacher.

Amanda Rachelle Sherrett, 41, of Winnipeg, was charged in April with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and luring a person under 18 by telecommunications.

The charges were filed following an investigation into allegations that Sherrett, a former physical education teacher at Collège Béliveau, had a sexually exploitative relationship with a former teenage student.

Court records show all charges were dropped by the Crown on June 25. The reason for this was not immediately clear on Friday.

The Winnipeg Police Service alleged at the time that the student, a teenage girl, had been manipulated into a sexual relationship that included inappropriate physical contact during school trips. Police alleged the contact continued after the student left the Grade 7-12 school in Windsor Park.

According to police, the crimes took place between March 1, 2022 and April 5, 2023.

The Louis Riel School Division reported in April that Sherrett had been removed from his workplace following the allegations.

This is not the first time that allegations of sexual misconduct against teachers in Manitoba have not gone to court.
