Delhi Police beefs up security for Independence Day amid rising threats

Police in the capital have stepped up patrols in sensitive areas. “All necessary measures have been taken. We have tightened security measures in various places and are constantly monitoring as a preventive measure,” the officer said.

Interestingly, criminals with Bangladeshi roots are also on the police’s radar. Earlier this year, the city saw an increase in criminal activity committed by people with Bangladeshi roots. The officer said that officers are keeping an eye on any criminal with Bangladeshi roots who has recently been released from prison.

During a recent interstate police meeting held at the Delhi police headquarters, Commissioner Sanjay Arora raised the issue of the growing menace of interstate gangs operating in NCR. Officers have identified 11 gangs involved in a series of extortion calls, threats to businessmen and shootings in the city in the past few months. The top cop directed officers to check gang activities by invoking stringent laws like the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
