MLA offers tribe members car to take bodies home

Visakhapatnam: Rampachodavaram MLA Sirisha Devi Miriyala converted her car into an ambulance to help tribal families bring their children home bodies of patients from hospitals.
On the occasion of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples on August 9, the TDP dedicated the ambulance to the people.
Hiring an ambulance to transport bodies is not affordable for tribes because private ambulances serving as hearses at government hospitals in Kakinada and Rajahmundry are expensive.
The MLA Sirisha Devi has converted her old SUV (Mahindra Bolero neo) into an ambulance to transport the dead from the hospitals to the tribes.
The MLA said many people from Rampachodavaram division of ASR district have gone to government hospitals in Kakinada and Rajahmundry. When patients die in hospitals, relatives find it difficult to take the bodies home.
“While private ambulances are an option, they charge between ₹25,000 and ₹30,000 for their service to transport the dead from Kakinada to the tribal areas in Rampachodavaram. Many cannot afford the hefty amounts charged for transporting the dead,” the MLA said.
