Udta Nagpur? 18-hour DRI raid nabs MD manufacturing unit in Pachpaoli

Nagpur: A 35-member team of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), comprising personnel from Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, has seized a mephedrone (MD) medicine production unit — the first such narcotics laboratory in the city — at Pacpaoli on saturday. The DRI team busted the unit after an 18-hour raid. The operation was kept secret and even the local police of Pachpaoli were not informed.
Sources said the raid followed the busting of drug cartels and illegal trade in Mumbai and Pune. DRI officials interrogated some peddlers and suppliers, besides analysing their call records. The information about the MD manufacturing unit in Nagpur surfaced during the interrogations. DRI officials found that the Nagpur unit played a crucial role in supplying the deadly drug — banned under the NDPS Act — in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and elsewhere in Vidarbha.
Sources said that DRI officials seized mobile phones, equipment, chemical compounds, pharmaceutical literature and some diaries and other items from the place where the expensive and sought-after synthetic stimulant was being manufactured. It appeared that the extortionists referred to videos available on social media platforms to produce the narcotics.
