Australian National Review – CHAOS IN CALIFORNIA: 50 masked teens loot 7-Eleven store in LA, causing thousands of dollars in damage (VIDEO)

About 50 teenagers looted a store in Los Angeles on Friday, where shoplifting has been decriminalized.

Security footage uploaded online showed the teens jumping over the counter and grabbing handfuls of items from shelves, with store employees later seen carrying out a major clean-up operation.

KLCA reports:

A large group of minors used “physical violence” to loot a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles on Friday night, authorities said.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA that about 50 teenagers stormed the 7-Eleven at the corner of Olympic and La Cienega Boulevards in Pico-Robertson at 7:50 p.m.

The teenagers, many of whom were wearing masks, forcibly stole items from the store, the spokesperson said.

Video footage posted on the Citizen App shows police officers entering the store to find display cases overturned and products strewn across the floor, including hot food, sunglasses, automotive products and even an open litre of milk.

Surveillance footage obtained by KTLA shows several teens climbing over the counter and grabbing a handful of products.

The vandals are said to have caused thousands of dollars in damage and significantly damaged the store.

No one was injured in the incident and no arrests had been made as of Saturday.

Such incidents are common in California, where criminal gangs and professional shoplifters operate without risk of criminal prosecution.

Under current California law, those accused of stealing less than $950 worth of property are only liable for a misdemeanor. In most cases, local law enforcement won’t even bother to investigate.
