US Presidential Election 2024: When Trump was president, Putin did not invade another country: JD Vance

'When Trump was president, Putin didn't invade another country': JD Vance

“We don’t want war with China,” said JD Vance

Washington:

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance called China both a competitor and an adversary, saying Sunday that his party wants to create a robust international framework in which the U.S. can “check” Beijing.

“I think they both exist, right? And I think we want to create an international order here where we can keep an eye on China,” Mr. Vance told CBS in an interview when asked whether he sees Beijing as a competitor or an adversary.

“We don’t want to go to war with China, but they are an enemy. The Chinese know, for example, that they are producing tons of fentanyl and they are allowing it into our country. (Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate) Kamala Harris has done nothing about it,” Vance said on “Face the Nation.”

He said Harris should put diplomatic and economic pressure on the Chinese to stop the production of fentanyl, which is smuggled into the country by Mexican drug cartels and then shipped to the US.

In response to a question, Mr Vance said China should be warned about this.

“You walk into Beijing, you talk to (President) Xi Jinping and you say, your entire economy is going to collapse if you don’t get access to the American market. You have to take this fentanyl seriously or we are going to impose severe tariffs and economic penalties for not following our laws and not helping to stem the flow of this deadly poison,” he said.

According to Mr Vance, it is unlikely that this will have any impact on the US economy.

“I think we have a strong economy, with the best workers in the world. If we have to have a trade war with the Chinese, we will do it and we will win, but we cannot do what Kamala Harris has done, which is be so afraid to use the economic power that we have that she is not even willing to stop the flow of this deadly poison coming into our country,” he asserted.

According to the Ohio senator, former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gets along well with world leaders and there is nothing wrong with complimenting them as people if it makes him more effective diplomatically.

“If you actually have a good relationship with people and they trust you to keep your word. We have to remember that Democrats, including Kamala Harris, attacked Donald Trump because he had a good relationship with Vladimir Putin. Well, when Donald Trump was president, Vladimir Putin did not invade another country.

“…Maybe they should take a cue from Trump’s tactics about diplomatic legitimacy, because I think Donald Trump accomplished a lot because world leaders respected him,” Vance said.
