Former mobster Anthony Arillotta recently shed light on the notorious Whitey Bulger and his manipulative relationship with the FBI. Arillotta highlighted Bulger’s reputation as a dangerous and feared figure within the Winter Hill Gang, which operated primarily in Somerville, Massachusetts. Contrary to the popular narrative that Bulger acted as an FBI informant beginning in 1975, Arillotta suggests that Bulger manipulated the FBI for his own protection rather than providing substantial information about Italian mobsters.

Arillotta detailed how Bulger received critical information from corrupt FBI agents, which allowed him to stay ahead of law enforcement and eliminate threats. These tips included locations of wiretaps and warnings about informants within his circle. Arillotta argued that while Bulger may have been branded as an informant, the real dynamic was that Bulger used the FBI’s desire to protect its alleged assets to further his own criminal activities.
