Take-Two does not believe that offering AAA titles on subscription services day and date is “rational”

We’ve seen plenty of publishers try their hand at day-and-date releases on subscription services (primarily Game Pass) for big titles in recent years, but the one major company that has moved away from this entirely is Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K. Take-Two has maintained time and again that this is a business model that doesn’t make sense for their approach, and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change anytime soon.

In a recent conversation with GamesIndustry, I revisited the topic of Game Pass when I was asked what a big title like the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 He expects that the day and date the game comes out on Game Pass will change consumer habits. He expects the trend to shift to subscriptions at least in the short term.

“I think offering a premium-priced front-line title in a subscription service, day and date, will drive consumers to that subscription service for at least a period of time,” he said.

That said, Zelnick says Take-Two still won’t offer any of its premium, flagship titles through subscription services on release day, implying that he doesn’t believe this would be “rational.”

“No, it won’t affect our decisions,” he said. “Because our decisions are rational.”

Take-Two currently has several major titles in the pipeline, including Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 And Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake (which is being developed by Remedy Entertainment), Firaxis Games’ Civilization 7and rumors of titles such as Borderlands 4 And Mafia 4.
