Taiwanese comedian Mickey Huang charged with possession of child pornography, victim count rises to 41, youngest is only 11

August 12, 2023 – (Taipei) Taiwanese comedian and television host Mickey Huang is accused of possessing child pornography. The number of underage victims in the case has now risen to 41, including one victim who was only 11 years old.

According to reports, the Taipei Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against Huang for violating Taiwan’s Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act. The investigation began after Huang was previously accused of sexual harassment in 2023, although he was not charged due to lack of evidence.

Prosecutors have now found evidence that Huang downloaded and possessed hundreds of explicit videos and images of underage girls since 2017. Seven of those videos were identified as the basis for the current charges, with the victims ranging in age from 11 to 18.

Initially, prosecutors had opted for a deferred prosecution agreement, which required Huang to pay a fine of 1.2 million Taiwan dollars and write a 1,200-word letter of repentance. However, the decision was met with significant public backlash, with the leniency of the sentence being questioned.

As a result, the case was sent back to the High Prosecutors’ Office for further review. After additional investigation, prosecutors have now decided to formally charge Huang, with the Taipei District Court summoning him to appear for a hearing on the afternoon of August 12.

Huang has reportedly denied the allegations, claiming the videos were downloaded before the relevant law was implemented and that he did not redistribute or sell the content. However, prosecutors have now found evidence of 41 underage victims, the youngest of whom is just 11 years old.
