17 shot, 8 confirmed dead in Jamaica mass shooting – WE FM 99.9

Seventeen people were shot and killed in a devastating gun attack in the Cherry Tree Lane neighborhood of Clarendon on Sunday night. Eight people were killed.

The violence prompted Prime Minister Andrew Holness to call an emergency meeting of the National Security Council for 9am today.

Following a preliminary briefing from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Holness condemned the attack as “reprehensible, brutal and senseless” and vowed that authorities would spare no effort to arrest those responsible.

He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stressed the government’s commitment to combating criminal gangs.

Despite a 17 percent drop in homicides this year, Holness stressed the need for continued and intensified efforts to curb crime. He urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward and assist police in their investigation.
