Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford hints at Borderlands as everyone still blames him for the film’s problems

While Gearbox Software’s CEO tries to put a positive spin on the film adaptation’s problems, gamers are having none of it and want the creator to take responsibility and withdraw from the franchise altogether.

Reflection on the film’s poor receptionThe studio’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, took to X/Twitter to reveal that he “super flattered“to hear that the fans of the series love the games even more than the greatest filmmakers in the world could ever produce.

The CEO concluded his optimistic train of thought by promising that the studio is working hard on the next entry in the franchise. A fourth entry in the Border areas series was confirmed earlier this year when Take-Two Interactive acquired the studio.

So what you’re saying is: You love what my friends and I are doing with our Borderlands video games more than what some of the biggest and best cast and crew of filmmakers on the planet have done. I’m super flattered! We’re working extra hard for you on what’s coming next…

While many fans responded positively to Pitchford’s response, others used his post as an opportunity to mourn the decision to turn the film into what they see as a generic PG-13 action comedy rather than something that fits the franchise.

Pitchford clearly played a major role in the film’s production, but it turned out to be a nightmare. Gamers believe the studio will flourish again after Pitchford leaves the company altogether.

We like your games better. But we know YOU played a huge part in the production of this movie. Thank goodness you left while developing the game. I can’t wait to see what Gearbox does without you lording it over them and demanding more poop jokes.

It wasn’t just the film’s failure either; previous games in the franchise left players puzzled about the future.

Despite the Borderlands movie’s flaws, hamstrings from poor writer choice, and a pg-13 rating, that doesn’t change the fact that the bl3 story was disappointing to say the least. Don’t take someone else’s failure as your success.

It’s surprising that Pitchford would make such statements, given that he outright blocked dedicated players of the franchise when they raised concerns about the film.

Perhaps you should also make an effort to lift the block and apologize to the dedicated players and creators you blocked when they had legitimate criticisms of this film.

After years of disappointment, players have lost faith in Gearbox and are convinced that they will never see a legendary title like the first installment again.

I think everyone just wants to play a real and authentic borderlands game again. I think even if you made a new game on borderlands 1 engine, people would love it. Your franchise is beloved, but people are afraid they won’t see it again.

The film’s poor performance and Pitchford’s comments likely won’t do the franchise any favors. However, that doesn’t mean fans aren’t excited for a new entry in the franchise.

Borderlands 4 is still years away from launch

Take-Two’s March 2024 announcement stated that a fourth installment in the popular series was in active development, but did not specify when the production phase had begun.

In the modern gaming landscape, it is a known fact that game development, especially for AAA titles, can take at least four to five years. Given that we still don’t have enough information, Border areas 4 It could be years before he makes his debut.

Judging from 2K and Gearbox’s previous marketing campaigns, it’s safe to assume that it’ll be at least 12 months before the title is finally revealed.

It is crucial that developers listen carefully to feedback from previous failures of the franchise. Otherwise, the next game could be a failure, just like the movie release.
