“I do NOT support her”

When California Sheriff Mike Boudreaux found himself in a new political ad from Kamala Harris touting border security, he wasn’t exactly thrilled. The veteran Tulare County sheriff, who also serves as president of the California State Sheriffs’ Association, called the ad a distortion of the facts. The sheriff was featured in a clip that showed Harris visiting the Central Valley in 2013, when she was California’s attorney general.

The ad featured clips of Boudreaux with other local and state law enforcement officials during a 2013 visit by Harris, and Boudreaux admits he doesn’t fully remember the details of the confrontation. What did stick with him, however, was Harris’ behavior during that encounter, which he now criticizes in the context of the ad.

“In light of a recent political ad by Kamala Harris featuring Sheriff Boudreaux, and other local law enforcement officials, the Sheriff wants to make it clear that his likeness is being used without his permission and that he is NOT endorsing Harris for president or any other political office,” Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said in a statement to Fox News.

“As president, she’ll hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. Fixing the border is hard. So is Kamala Harris,” the ad reads.

“I want to point out, by the way, the misleading information projected in that same political ad,” Boudreaux continued. “In the ad, Harris claims he spent decades fighting violent crime as a ‘border state prosecutor.’ The facts are that ‘then California Attorney General Kamala’ came to the Valley with a years-long investigation into a multinational drug operation with ties to Mexican drug cartels and prison gangs … The truth is Harris never cared about the cartels and did nothing to stop people from crossing the border illegally.”

Boudreaux criticized Harris’ appearance, dismissing it as smoke and mirrors. “We were in the green room. She never came in and said hello to any of us. She walked up, gave her press conference, literally walked away and never said hello to any of us,” Boudreaux said. “I’m disgusted because, you know, she didn’t shake hands. She didn’t say hello. And she took credit for all the work that the locals did.”

“How can you go in and say you were a tough border guy when you have all these troops coming across the border and you’re literally eliminating all these task forces? I mean, that drove us crazy,” Boudreaux explained. The Biden administration has recently struggled with declining approval ratings over immigration concerns, and Republicans have tried to pin the blame for the border invasion on Harris.

“If you see that ad, and you do a little bit of research, you’ll see that what she (Harris) is promoting is completely at odds with what was happening at the time. So when she put that picture of me in it online, I got really angry. That ad is all smoke and mirrors. I don’t support her.”
