Man charged in child pornography, sex extortion case

We have charged a man suspected of being responsible for the lure and sexual extortion of a teenager earlier this year.

Between May and June 2024, a 16-year-old girl began communicating with a man via direct message on Instagram. It is believed that the man lured the girl into sharing nude photos of herself in exchange for money. The girl discovered that the nude photos had been posted online without her knowledge or consent. When she confronted the man to remove the photos, he refused unless she provided more nude photos or performed sexual acts on him.

The girl reported the incident to police, who launched an investigation.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, police searched a residence in the 2400 block of Pinewood Drive SE. Several electronic devices were seized and one man was arrested.

As a result, Curtis Tyson CHALK, 29, of Calgary, is charged with racketeering, child lure with intent to produce child pornography, making child pornography available, accessing child pornography and possession of child pornography.

CHALK remains in custody and is due to appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

The girl has been connected with necessary support and resources.
