7 police personnel face action for ‘releasing ganja mafia and vehicle’ in Odisha’s Koraput

You might have come across several Bollywood movies with interesting plots of a nexus between the men in khakhi and criminals. However, several police personnel in Odisha’s Koraput have now landed in soup after allegedly releasing some criminals involved in Ganja (dry cannabis) smuggling and their truck.

As per initial reports, Koraput SP has suspended three Sub-Inspectors and two constables and two home guards have been disengaged in connection with the incident.

It is alleged that a joint team of Machhkund and Lamtaput police had intercepted a truck, suspected to be engaged in ganja smuggling on Monday night. Instead of nabbing the criminals and seizing the vehicle, the police personnel allegedly released them. However, the information regarding such an illegal act came to the notice of the senior police officials who then immediately swung into action and launched a probe.

As an investigation is still under progress, things are likely to get clear only after senior police officials issue a statement as to what exactly happened and why action has been taken against the police personnel.
