Illegal credit extended to Rumen Gaitanski Company and used to purchase Varna TPP under investigation

The Prosecutor’s Office, the Anti-Corruption Commission and the police are searching properties of Rumen Gaitanski, also known as the Wolf in Sofia. In Kardzhali, searches are being carried out on companies with ties to former mayor Hasan Azis. Detectives are also searching properties with ties to former Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) director Stoyan Mavrodievreports BNR. The investigation concerns a loan of 74.3 million euros provided by the BDB, the Public Prosecutor’s Office told the Bulgarian news agency BTA. On August 9, the Anti-Corruption Commission announced that there was a reasonable suspicion of violations in the provision of the loan by the BDB, which caused significant damage to the state. The loan was provided to the company Roadway Construction, which is connected to Rumen Gaitanski. Part of the loan was used to finance the takeover of the Varna thermal power plant by the honorary chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms Ahmed Dogan.
