Arizona debates Proposition 313, which would impose life sentences on children involved in sex trafficking

Arizona Proposition 313 proposes a significant change in the state’s approach to combating child sex trafficking. If passed, this constitutional amendment would impose a life sentence on individuals convicted of a Class 2 felony involving trafficking minors for sexual exploitation.

Under Arizona law, child sex trafficking encompasses a variety of illegal activities, including the use, transportation, recruitment, or offering of minors for prostitution or sexually explicit performances. Proposition 313 aims to impose severe penalties to deter such heinous crimes and protect vulnerable children.

The debate over Proposition 313 has been a hot topic, with key voices on both sides. Kayleigh Kozak, founder and president of Because You Still Matter, supports the measure and advocates for tougher penalties to address the growing child sex trafficking crisis. Jenna Panas, CEO of The Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, on the other hand, presents concerns and arguments against the proposal. Both leaders appeared on Arizona Horizon to discuss their perspectives and the implications of this proposed amendment.
