Police expose criminal gangs operating on island

There are gangs active in St. Vincent (SVG). ACP Trevor Bailey made the revelation during his guest appearance on ‘Voices’, a talk show that aired Monday night on WEFM.

Bailey said, among other things, that there is a chain of command and that tasks are assigned to individuals.

“I would classify them and say yes, because when I look at how some of them operate, I see a structure. There is a chain of command. There are tasks that are assigned to individuals. There are some that you can’t just do things with without the explicit approval of leadership. That’s well defined. Should we allow that? I would say a resounding no.”

“We see them committing robberies. We know they commit murder. We know they use drugs, and that requires careful analysis and perhaps even a deeper analysis, a deeper investigation into the activities of these gangs.”

“The gangs have color codes, names, and even places that they consider their territory. They claim those areas.”

Bailey, however, gave such individuals a powerful message.

“That won’t happen anywhere in SVG. No one should have a claim on a geographic space. It’s not theirs, and I hope that the organization will make sure that doesn’t happen long after I’m gone.”

“If we allow a gang, a group to just show up and say between the corner of the hospital and French’s is ours, the barracks between the corner of the hospital and French’s is ours. So you’re going to own the barracks? We can’t allow that to happen. And if anybody has that idea, that mentality, go to sleep tonight knowing that it’s only in your head that you own it,” Bailey said.
