$25 million reward for information on Clarendon mass shooting – Jamaica Inquirer

The government has announced a $25 million reward fund, primarily for information leading to the arrest of suspects in Sunday’s mass shooting on Cherry Tree Lane in Clarendon.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced details of the financial incentives during a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office (OPM) on Wednesday.

Calling it “a $25 million anti-gang stimulus,” Holness said the funds are also intended to strengthen and support anti-gang initiatives across the country, including facilitating reliable information on gangsters.

According to Holness, there are currently 185 criminal gangs active in Jamaica.

“We will provide $6 million for credible information and intelligence leading to the arrest and indictment of any suspect involved in the (mass) murder (in Clarendon), particularly those involved in pulling the trigger,” Holness said.

Of that amount, a maximum of $1 million will be provided per person arrested.

Holness said $5 million is being allocated for information that will aid the investigation, and for the arrest and indictment of the facilitators of the Clarendon mass shooting.

“Up to a maximum of $1.5 million per person (the detainees are provided for),” he said.

Facilitators refer to those individuals who supplied or provided access to the weapons and ammunition used in the killings, provided access to the motor vehicle used to transport the shooters, or made cell phone calls to arrange the killings.

Third, a $4 million reward is being offered for information leading to the seizure of the firearms and ammunition used in the commission of Sunday night’s offense.

An additional $5 million has been set aside to provide information and intelligence to help secure evidence against the gangs responsible for the killings and shootings.

Finally, a $5 million fund is being allocated for information on the arrest and indictment of those harboring the gangsters and their accomplices involved in Sunday’s incident.

“So this is a $25 million fund aimed at increasing the pace of information coming in for the investigation,” Holness said, adding that the fund will be managed by the Ministry of National Security.
