On August 7, a man was spotted posing as a Secret Service agent at a JD Vance event in Detroit, Michigan.

A man who is not a Secret Service agent was spotted wearing a Secret Service patch on an armored vest issued by another one federal agency.

RealClearInvestigations reporter Susan Crabtree showed the photo to the Secret Service and they confirmed that the man was mistakenly wearing a Secret Service patch.

“The U.S. Secret Service was made aware of a photograph showing a member of another law enforcement agency improperly wearing a Secret Service patch. Corrective action has been taken and guidance has been distributed to personnel regarding the use of agency insignia.”

According to Susan Crabtree, the person in the photo is a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations.

“I have since discovered that the individual in the photo is a special agent or officer with Homeland Security Investigations. They primarily specialize in investigating transnational crime and violations of United States Customs and Immigration laws. HSI, TSA and other federal law enforcement agencies have historically and continue to employ the Secret Service in duties such as magnetometer screening and other “non-discretionary” assignments to help ensure the safety of presidential and vice presidential candidates who have received USSS protection, the agency told me,” she said.

“That said, no outside agency serves in a direct protective or organizational role for the U.S. Secret Service,” the Secret Service statement concluded.

This is a huge security risk, especially after the failures that led to an assassination attempt on President Trump.

“There is a huge security risk because if all someone has to do is create a fake Secret Service trail, throw it over themselves and walk around the site, how are regular Secret Service agents going to be able to tell who is who?” a source within the Secret Service community told Susan Crabtree.

Worse yet, non-Secret Service agents are not properly trained to check bags at event entrances, AND someone gives them permission to enter Secret Service-only locations.
