Internet Safety Foundation receives grant for digital safety initiative

The Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF) has received a grant from the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and the Mott Foundation.

This funding will support GISF’s Digital Safety Initiative, which aims to equip Ghanaian law enforcement officers, public prosecutors and the Ghana Police Service with essential skills for effective investigation and prosecution of cybercrime.

The initiative will enhance law enforcement and prosecutors’ investigative skills in cybercrime and digital security. It will provide practical training in child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA) investigations, justice for victims of cybercrime, advanced digital security, threat detection, online safety, financial sextortion and cybercrime awareness.

In addition, the initiative will launch a public awareness campaign on sextortion and cybercrime. This initiative aims to strengthen law enforcement and prosecutors while increasing public awareness on digital security. Both GISF and WACSI/Mott Foundation are committed to improving Ghana’s digital security landscape through education and community outreach.

Emmanuel Adinkra, Chairman of the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation expressed his gratitude: “We are very grateful for the support from WACSI and the Mott Foundation. This grant will enable us to significantly improve the skills of Ghanaian law enforcement officers and prosecutors in tackling cybercrime and ensuring justice for victims. Over two thousand direct and indirect beneficiaries will be impacted by the training. Together, we can create a safer digital environment for all Ghanaians.”

Nana Asantewa Afadzinu, Director of WACSI, also shared: “In addressing public space issues, we must remain vigilant and use technology to protect ourselves and enable us to effectively carry out our responsibilities.”

The Ghana Internet Safety Foundation is dedicated to promoting internet safety and digital literacy throughout Ghana. Our mission is to create a safer online environment through education, advocacy and community engagement.

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) works to strengthen the capacities of civil society organisations in West Africa. WACSI supports civil society to be more effective and sustainable in addressing development challenges in the region.

The Mott Foundation supports efforts that advance just, equitable, and sustainable societies. Through partnerships and grants, the Foundation addresses issues related to education, the environment, and community development worldwide.
