NJPW G1 Climax Night 17 Results and Review (August 15, 2024)

On August 15, 2024, NJPW broadcast the 17th Night of G1 Climax live in Chiba, Japan at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall to 1,111 fans. The broadcast can be viewed on NJPW World.

8 Man Tag Team Match
Just 5 Guys (Junior Heavyweight Champion Douki, Taka Michinoku, Sanada and Taichi) vs. Bishamon (Hirooki Goto and Yoshi Hashi), Katsuya Murashima and Tomoaki Honma

Taichi and Yoshi Hashi exchanged spinkicks before Taichi executed a Mafia Kick. Sanada and Hirooki Goto fought.

Taka Michinoku comes in and does a pumpkick before Tomoaki Honma comes in and does a DDT/flatliner combo, but misses Kokeshi. Katsuya Murashima comes in and fights Douki.

Douki scored an enzuigiri and then a Sahrawi Suplex for the win.

NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Team Champions Be Bop Tag Team (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano) & Boltin Oleg vs. House Of Torture (Yujiro Takahashi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Sho)

House Of Torture attacks Be Bop Tag Team and Boltin Oleg before the bell rings.

Yujiro Takahashi pushes Toru Yano into a ringside guardrail and House Of Torture works Hiroshi Tanahashi in the ring. Sho hits a dragon screw. Tanahashi hits Sho and Takahashi.

Boltin Oleg got a good tag and he made a few shoulder tackles, sending House Of Torture into the air.

Oleg threw Sho around in his arms and then did the gutwrench suplex. He did the same to Takahashi.

Yano got a hot tag and immediately removed a corner pad. He rolls up Takahashi for a near fall.

Takahashi grabbed his walking stick and hit Tanahashi with it.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru accidentally sprayed whiskey into Takahashi’s eyes, prompting Yano Takahashi to immediately roll up to grab the ball.

Winners: NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Team Champions Be Bop Tag Team & Boltin Oleg (8:40)

Tag Team Match
Bullet Club War Dogs (strong openweight champion Gabe Kidd and Jake Lee) vs. United Empire (television champion Jeff Cobb and Francesco Akira)

Bullet Club War Dogs attacks United Empire from behind and both teams brawl on the ground, with Kidd teaming up with Jeff Cobb and Jake Lee and Francesco Akira making their way into the stands.

In the ring, Cobb performed a standing moonsault on Lee, after which they stood up and exchanged forearm strikes.

Akira gives Lee a plancha and then a leglock on Lee in the ring. Then Akira gives him a crossbody on the top rope and a senton from Cobbs shoulders on Lee for a near fall.

Kidd hits Akira’s jaw with a straight punch and Lee immediately hits him with a chokeslam to clinch the win

Los Ingobernables De Japon (IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito & Bushi) vs. United Empire (NEVER Openweight Champion Henare & Callum Newman)

Callum Newman and Tetsuya Naito opened the match with Newman delivering a Mafia Kick to Naito.

Bushi dives through the ropes onto Newman and in the ring Henare delivers an Ultima on Bushi for the win via submission.

Winners by Submission: United Empire (6:11)

House Of Torture (Ren Narita, Dick Togo & Evil) vs. Guerrillas Of Density (El Phantasmo & Jado) & Shota Umino

House Of Torture attacked Guerrillas Of Density & Shota Umino at the bell and they finished off El Phantasmo. Shota Umino & Ren Narita traded attacks with Umino hitting an exploder suplex.

Jado comes in and clotheslines Evil.

Togo hits Jado’s groin with a razor sharp chop for a near fall. Evil then hits Everything is Evil

Winners: House Of Torture (7:40)

Tag Team Match
Bullet Club War Dogs (World Champion David Finlay & Gedo) vs. Zack Sabre Jr & Hartley Jackson

David Finlay and Zack Sabre Jr. battled early in the match until Hartley Jackson entered the field and executed a double clothesline.

ZSJ and Finlay landed more punches than Jackson and Gedo, but Gedo hesitated to capture the ball.

He asked Jackson to shake his hand before Jackson made a splash in the corner and nearly fell.

Jackson fell back onto Gedo as Gedo attempted a sleeper, then hit a senton and a Death Valley Driver for the win.

Winners: Zack Sabre Jr & Hartley Jackson (9:34)

Non Title Quarterfinal Match of the 2024 G1 Climax
Block A Winner 2 Shingo Takagi vs. Block A Winner 3 KOPW 2024 Champion Great O Khan

Shingo Takagi lands a series of headbutts before Great O Khan delivers a straight punch to the jaw, applies a Fujiwara Armbar and switches to a cross armbreaker.

O Khan picks him up, but Takagi turns it into a DDT.

Takagi executes a German suplex and a Pumping Bomber for a near fall.

Takagi puts O Khan on his shoulders and scores the victory with Last of The Dragon.

Winner: Shingo Takagi (21:30) (He will face ZSJ in the semi-final)

2024 G1 Climax Quarterfinals
Winner block B 2 Konosuke Takeshita vs. Winner block B 3 Yota Tsuji

Yota Tsuji does a jumping knee and a clothesline, but Konosuke Takeshita jumps up on the first count.

They exchanged blows and Tsuji knocked him down with a headbutt. Tsuji gave him a Curb Stomp.

Takeshita uses a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall.

Tsuji gave him a Stundog Millionaire and a Gene Blaster and then a cover, but Takeshita got his foot on the ropes.

Takeshita avoids Gene Blaster and performs a German suplex, but Tsuji jumps up and hits Gene Blaster for the win.

Winner: Yota Tsuji (21:30) (He will face David Finlay in the semi-final)
Rating: 8 (Recommended)
