Jam-packed text messages show dentist feared arrest when he tried to arrange sex with ‘mother and child’ before being nabbed

A DENTIST who feared he would be arrested after allegedly trying to arrange sex with a mother and her nine-year-old daughter has been arrested at an airport.

Dr. James Jason Atha has been charged with attempted enticement of a minor and could face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

The Colorado dentist was arrested by undercover agents on Aug. 9 after allegedly flying to West Palm Beach with child pornography and chocolate-flavored lubricant, the Palm Beach Post reported.

Atha, 50, of Broomfield, allegedly texted a woman he believed was a single mother from Florida.

Last October, Homeland Security Investigations began looking into his alleged online activities during an investigation into child sexual exploitation, according to an arrest affidavit filed by Atha.

An undercover agent posed as a mother with a young daughter, Fox 31 reported.

According to court documents, the agent had access to chat rooms set up for people to discuss “interests” such as “sex, family incest, child pornography and the like.”

Atha was contacted by the officer on October 3, 2023, where the couple reportedly discussed having sex with the woman and her infant daughter.

According to federal authorities, the undercover agent described in online chat rooms how she manipulated her daughter with sex toys during play.

“That’s beautiful, I would love to be a part of that,” Atha claimed in a text message.

“I would like to find a mother and daughter to play with,” he allegedly said in another message, according to court documents.

He was asked if he had had sex with a mother and daughter before.

“Unfortunately not,” he is said to have replied, according to the indictment.

“I’ve had so many opportunities that I thought were opportunities, but when push came to shove, they were ignored.”

On June 14, Atha and the agent allegedly texted each other about a possible meeting, where he could meet her and the child in Florida.

According to the 27-page affidavit, they were supposed to be together in Palm Beach from August 9 to 11.

According to the statement, the dentist allegedly asked the girl to wear makeup and dress in “something that was not entirely age appropriate.”

However, court documents show that Atha was concerned she would be arrested upon arrival.

“I’m very nervous, but I’m serious. I think: when I get there, the police will be waiting for me,” he is said to have texted the fake mother.

When Atha landed in West Palm Beach last Friday, a team of officers followed her through the airport, the Post reported.

The federal agents led him away in handcuffs.

Atha told officers he planned to watch the mother and daughter have sex and had no intention of participating, court documents state.

The undercover officer told him she was posing as the mother and daughter, the Daily Mail reported.

The dentist is accused of attempted seduction of a minor.

He made his initial appearance in federal court on Monday and is in custody in South Florida today.
