ZPHQ Kashmir hosts debate on human rights violations

Srinagar, August 16: The Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir today organised a debate competition on the topic: “Human rights violations cannot be tackled without tackling the crimes of organised criminal gangs including terrorist organisations, human trafficking gangs and drug smugglers.”

The event took place at the conference hall of PCR Kashmir and brought together a diverse group of participants to discuss this topic.

During the opening address, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi extended a warm welcome to the esteemed jury members Parvaiz Hussain Kachroo, Principal Kashmir Law College Srinagar (Rtd Principal District & Sessions Judge) as Chairman, Laeeq Ahmad Dar (JDP Crime Hqrs J&K) as Member, Qazi Abdul Qayoom (JDP ZPHQ) as Member and Manzoor Ahmad Mir (CPO ZPHQ) as Member along with all the participants.

He outlined the importance of the debate topic and highlighted how organised criminal syndicates, including terrorist groups, human traffickers and drug smugglers, contribute significantly to human rights violations. VK Birdi provided valuable context and set the tone for a robust and insightful discussion among participants.

The debate aimed to highlight the interconnectedness of human rights violations and organized crime, and stressed the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to effectively address these problems. Participants presented their arguments with depth and clarity, shedding light on how organized criminal syndicates, including terrorist organizations, human traffickers and drug smugglers, contribute to widespread human rights violations.

Finally, an award ceremony was held, wherein the winner of the best district team was given to PD Awantipora and PD Sopore was declared as the runner-up best district team. Moreover, Suhail Reshi (DySP) was declared as the 1st individual winner, Sheeraz (Ct, EXK-195992) and Tariq Ahmad (Inspector, EXK-022586) were declared as the winners at 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
