Folsom man sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexual exploitation of minor

August 18, 2024 – SACRAMENTO, CA – Matthew Goyder, 41, of Folsom, was sentenced last Thursday by U.S. District Judge Daniel J. US Department of JusticeCalabretta has been sentenced to 40 years in prison and lifetime parole for sexual exploitation of a minor, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.

According to court documents, Goyder used Snapchat to contact and sextort underage victims for sexually explicit images and videos. Goyder claimed to be a teenage boy when he first contacted the victims. When officers searched Goyder’s iPhone, they found approximately 120 albums, many of which were labeled with the victims’ names and ages.

This case was the product of an investigation by the Folsom Police Department and the Sacramento Valley Hi-tech Crimes Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger Yang prosecuted the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Abuse and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to investigate, apprehend, and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
