Hema Commission, Hema Commission Report, Male Artists, Mafia, Unofficial Ban, Blacklist, Malayalam Movie

Kochi: The Hema Committee report highlights the difficulties faced by male artistes in the industry who dare to challenge the control of the ‘mafia’ that dominates the film sector. According to the findings, even male artistes who acknowledge the prevailing injustices and exploitation of women often hesitate to speak out for fear of unofficial blacklisting. The report cites several instances where prominent actors were denied the opportunity to express their views, noting that even minor criticism can have dire consequences.

It is disturbing to learn that even minor disagreements that bother influential figures in the industry have resulted in unofficial bans.

Looking back at past cases where prominent actors were denied the chance to challenge the power structures of the industry, many male artists who witness the mistreatment of women remain silent to avoid similar repercussions. They are reluctant or afraid to confront the ‘mafia’.

During discussions about the lack of toilet facilities for women on filming locations, some male artists admitted that such problems exist. However, one prominent actor suggested that women have been working in the industry for a long time without complaints.

However, it is encouraging that a number of male artists have come forward to express their concerns about the inadequate facilities and exploitation faced by women in the industry, the committee said.
