1 migrant killed, 8 injured in Mexico shooting south of Arizona border

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Officials in Mexico say one migrant was killed and eight wounded when unknown assailants opened fire on the vehicle they were traveling in in northern Mexico. The dead migrant was a boy from southern Mexico, and the wounded were Mexicans and people from Ecuador and Africa. Prosecutors in the northern state of Sonora said the attack occurred Sunday in a township called Tubutama, about 47 miles (75 kilometers) south of Sasabe, on the Arizona border. No motive was given for the attack, but the area has been rocked by violence between rival gangs of migrant smugglers tied to warring drug cartels.
