“After 25 years of the Bolivarian Revolution, almost 10 years of which were under a blockade with more than 900 active sanctions, we have decided that Maduro must lead a new phase of transformations towards socialism,” they said, recalling that Venezuelans elected Maduro with more than 6 million votes.

The civil society organizations demanded “respect for the will expressed in the votes” and criticized former presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez for his actions against Venezuelan institutions.

“He did two very serious things. By publishing his own election results with falsified documents, he ignored the results and the electoral institution and called on his supporters to reject everything. To do this, he paid paramilitary groups to incite violence in various areas.”

The Venezuelan section of the ALBA movements also recalled that between July 29 and 30, far-right activists unleashed violent persecutions against supporters of Chavismo through “small commandos” made up of young people linked to criminal gangs.

“They attacked community halls, political parties, institutional headquarters, social programme facilities and the homes of community spokespersons,” they pointed out.

“WhatsApp shared the contact details of Chavistas with right-wing groups that activated task forces in several countries to send threatening messages… In our neighborhoods, most of our spokespeople received death threats from unknown numbers with foreign codes. Instagram and TikTok have enabled the widespread dissemination of hateful messages against Chavismo, along with violent actions.”

In response to the violent actions of the far right, the Venezuelan state is implementing a plan to deactivate armed groups and arrest the material and intellectual perpetrators of the violence.

In this regard, ALBA organizations recalled that 25 people died as a result of the violent actions unleashed after the July 28 elections. They also rejected the unfounded opinions expressed by Presidents Lula da Silva (Brazil) and Gustavo Petro (Colombia) about the Venezuelan electoral process.

“In an act of disorientation, Lula and Petro are trying to tell Venezuelans what to do, ignoring our Constitution and our sovereignty and crudely suggesting that we hold new elections or form a government with the far right.”

“Our vote counts! Our Constitution counts! Nicolas Maduro is the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the period 2025-2031. Together with him, we will continue to fight against imperialism and fascism, and carry out the necessary transformations in the construction of Bolivarian socialism.”
