Hema Commission Report Reveals Dark Side of Malayalam Film Industry: Intimidation and Mafia Control – KERALA – GENERAL

hema commission report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The recently released Justice Hema Committee report has unearthed the dark secrets of the Malayalam film industry, leaving many in shock. According to the report, the industry is dominated by a criminal mafia that exploits vulnerable individuals, including minors. The report throws light on the widespread problems of casteism, human trafficking, sexual harassment and human rights violations. Moreover, the report accuses prominent figures from the industry, including actors, directors, producers and production heads, of sexual exploitation of women.

The report also notes that not all men in the film industry are misogynistic and that many actually conduct themselves with great dignity.

The Cultural Affairs Department released the report yesterday at 2.30 pm under the Right to Information Act. Senior Sub-Editor Manoj Vijayaraj of Kerala Kaumudi and other media workers received the report. The report was released after the High Court Division Bench dismissed an appeal filed by actress Ranjini against the release of the report.

The report reveals that the attack on the actress in Kochi was not an isolated incident and many others had been attacked before. Only this incident came to light.

Many revered film personalities are actually two-faced. Most of the culprits are highly influential people who control the Malayalam film industry. People hesitate to file complaints with internal complaint committees because they fear that their complaints will reach the mafia group. Actresses who do not meet the demands of these criminals are labeled as troublemakers. Majority in the film industry are affiliated with the mafia group.

People who had bad experiences submitted various forms of evidence to the Hema committee, including video and audio clips and WhatsApp messages. Alarmingly, even the minimum wage is not guaranteed in the film industry.

15 people in the mafia, even POCSO

1. A 15-member criminal mafia rules Malayalam cinema. This ‘power mafia’, as it is called, decides who stays in the industry. The report states that those who are not liked by this group are banned from the industry, and this should be taken very seriously.

2. Only those who are part of the ‘power group’ are given luxury caravan facilities on the set. There have been cases of heinous crimes including POCSO cases. Several cases of sexual harassment have taken place under the influence of narcotics or drugs. Moreover, women have reported to the committee that many actors arrive on the set after consuming alcohol.

3. ‘Collaborate’, ‘compromise’. These two words are very familiar to women in the film industry. If they want to get opportunities, they have to share their beds with everyone from actors to production managers. Many have been victims of brutal harassment. Even actresses who are considered very brazen have had bad experiences.

4. There is a code for everything in the film industry. Those who compromise are called “collaborative artists.” Those who resist are branded “troublemakers” and labeled as “Me Too” cases.
