Major Ghwaram Baloch, spokesperson of the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), has issued a stern warning to the timber mafia operating in the Dazht region, urging them to immediately cease their deforestation activities or face dire consequences. In a recent statement, the BLF stressed that individuals involved in illegal logging could face arrest, hefty fines, and financial as well as personal losses.

The BLF’s warning comes after a close monitoring of the ongoing deforestation activities. The organisation has identified all parties involved, including non-local contractors and influential financiers. According to Major Baloch, the BLF has repeatedly stated that it will not tolerate exploitation of the resources of occupied Balochistan, deforestation, large-scale commercial timber use or hunting of wild animals. The timber mafia has been given a final warning to immediately cease their criminal activities.

The spokesperson revealed that complaints from the public have highlighted extensive deforestation in areas like Kanchti, Basholi, Kohk and Kadan, up to Jan Muhammad Bazaar. Both local and non-local contractors have been involved in deals for felling trees. Major Baloch stressed that the forests of occupied Balochistan are a national heritage, not the property of any individual or tribe. The BLF will not allow any part of these forests to be felled for commercial purposes. He warned that those who consider Balochistan abandoned and turn this illegal activity into a ‘business’ should remember that there are institutions that defend the national interests of Baloch.

The BLF, which represents the collective power of the Baloch people, aims to use this power in accordance with the public aspirations for the national interests of the Baloch. The organisation has expressed its desire that this national power should not be diverted or fragmented. In light of this, the BLF has called upon all conscious individuals to unite in protecting the forests, wildlife and environment of Pakistan Occupied Balochistan to avoid the need to resort to force to stop these activities.

Major Baloch stressed that climate change is a global challenge, with visible effects in POB evident in annual flooding during the rainy season. He warned that deforestation will exacerbate these problems. Environmental experts have observed a significant decline in tree planting in POB. The Pakistan Army, he said, is also involved in burning forests and acts as a major patron of those involved in deforestation.

The BLF concluded with a final warning to loggers: stop logging immediately or risk liability for the financial and personal damages.
