Trump to ban transgender surgeries on children without parental consent

Former President Donald Trump vowed to punish doctors who performed sex reassignment surgeries on children without parental consent, according to excerpts from the presidential candidate’s remarks on Tuesday.

Trump will speak Tuesday in Howell, Michigan, at the Livingston County sheriff’s office. It will be his sixth visit to the state this year, but his first to Michigan since his assassination attempt.

“To protect our children from sexual mutilation, we will make it a felony for any medical professional to perform surgery on a minor without parental consent,” Trump will say Tuesday afternoon, according to excerpts released by the campaign.

The former president’s pledge points to left-wing efforts, both inside and outside the United States, to help children undergo irreversible transgender procedures without parental consent.

Just last week, The Daily Signal reported that the Swiss government had taken a father’s daughter away from him because he would not allow her to begin medical transition procedures.

In liberal states like California, legislators have taken aggressive steps to facilitate attempts to change the sex of children, regardless of parental consent. In some cases, lawmakers have pushed policies that remove children from families that do not embrace gender ideology.

The California General Assembly passed a bill in September 2023, as The Daily Signal’s Tony Kinnett reported at the time, that would require judges in child custody cases to consider whether a parent has affirmed a child’s “gender transition” by making “gender confirmation” an equal part of a child’s “health, safety and welfare” under state law.

Under the bill, parents who refuse to play could be found guilty of failing to provide for the “health, safety and welfare” of their child, and lose custody to another parent or the state. California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed the bill in what many saw as a political move.

Conservative news organizations have reported on dozens of stories in recent years involving parental consent and gender ideology.

In Colorado, The Daily Signal previously reported that a school district assigned an 11-year-old girl to share a bed with a boy who identified himself as a girl, without notifying the girl’s parents.

The Daily Signal’s Elizabeth Troutman also reported in late July that a Southern California school district, Capistrano Unified School District in southern Orange County, California, was training counselors to help students hide their transgender identities from their concerned parents.

Trump also pledged Tuesday to aggressively prosecute dangerous criminals who violate existing gun laws and to “dismantle the gangs, barbaric criminal networks and bloodthirsty cartels.”

In his speech, he also promised to demand the death penalty for child abusers and traffickers.

The president’s remarks will also focus on Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ track record as “one of the first Marxist prosecutors in America.”
