Mafia Prequel announced, more info coming in December

The rumors were true: Hangar 13 is making a new Mafia game. According to rumors, it is a prequel called Mafia: The Old Country, set in Sicily in the 1900s, when the Italian mafia was forming. The game was announced at the end of Gamescom Opening Night Live.

We only got a short teaser trailer for Mafia: The Old Country. It’s a tantalizing teaser, and Hangar 13 said it would share more information about the game in December. That could potentially coincide with The Game Awards, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.

The Old Country is also the name of a Mafia II mission set during World War II in Italy.

Hangar 13 also developed Mafia: The Definitive Edition, which is now available on Xbox Game Pass, and Mafia III. More recently, Hangar 13 created the very un-Mafia game TopSpin 2K25.

In addition to Mafia: The Old Country, 2K announced more details about Civilization VII during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The publisher also revealed Borderlands 4. For more from the show, check out GameSpot’s roundup of all the biggest news in the gallery below.
