Mafia: The Old Country: The Fourth Part Is Finally Official

It’s long been considered certain that Hangar 13 is working on a new Mafia, and now it’s finally official. 2K announced Mafia: The Old Country at Gamescom.

Mafia III was not exactly a highlight of the series, which was launched by Illusion Softworks, later 2K Czech. Hangar 13, as a new developer, had the courage to choose a completely different setting, but the plan did not really work out.

It was considered certain that the studio was working on the fourth part of the series and now it’s official. Mafia 4 is coming, it’s called Mafia: The Old Country, it comes from Hangar 13 again and is set to release in 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Excitingly, the new game bears the name of a mission from Mafia II and that is not without reason, because Mafia: The Old Country takes you back to the early days of the organization in the brutal underworld of Sicily around 1900. The studio wants to fall back on old strengths and score points with authenticity and a complete story.

“In the first three installments of the Mafia franchise, we introduced players to the world of the Mafia through brutal stories set across different time periods,” said Nick Baynes, President of Hangar 13. “In Mafia: The Old Country, we’re going back to the roots of what fans love about the franchise by creating a deep, linear story with that classic Mafia movie feel, visiting a stunning new location, and delivering it all in a tight, focused package that’s perfect for fans of immersive experiences.”

More information about the new Mafia will be revealed in December of this year. Apart from a handful of images and a first teaser, there is little meaningful material yet. But at least you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam and the previous parts are available at a reduced price until September 2nd. Let’s hope that Mafia: The Old Country makes you forget its somewhat weaker predecessor and can build on the legendary first two parts.
