UT agents plan to trick vendors into revealing network secrets

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police are prepared to implement innovative provisions of the NDPS Act to the drug trafficking network Both in the city and in the region, senior police officials said.
The goal is to encourage drug dealers to come forward, cooperate and provide detailed and essential information about drug lords, officials said, adding that the initiative will offer rewards and guarantees to individuals who come forward to help crack down on drug trafficking.
Police officials said that for a successful fight against drug trafficking, it is crucial to tackle the deterrents that drug lords have created against their employees. In a bid to eradicate the drug cartels completely, the UT police encouraged those who have been forced to become drug cartels to peddlers and want to escape this threat by coming forward and revealing full information about the drug network.
Petty drug traffickers who provide full and truthful information about their role in the drug trade and disclose the names of their employers, the drug barons and the network are eligible for immunity from prosecution under the provisions of Section 64 of the NDPS Act.
Furthermore, they are well paid and their identity remains confidential. The police would also offer help to rehabilitate them into the mainstream.

The court cited that under Sec 37 of the NDPS Act, bail could not be granted because of the commercial quantity of drugs involved.
