LoP Satheesan says Kerala CM lied to stop publication of Hema committee report

LoP Satheesan says Kerala CM lied to stop publication of Hema committee reportThiruvananthapuram, Aug 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala state Assembly, VD Satheesan, on Wednesday said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has blatantly lied by not making public the explosive report of the Hema Commission on Justice (retired) on the conditions and sexual exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry.

On Monday, the Hema Commission’s report was published, after a lengthy legal battle.

Satheesan said people are surprised by the reason given by Vijayan on Tuesday: “It was Justice Hema herself who wrote to the state government in 2020, quoting the Supreme Court’s directive not to name people in the report as it is private information and needs to be kept extra confidential. The state government had no role in this.”

Satheesan hit out at Vijayan and told him not to fool people as everyone knows that the Supreme Court has given a directive that the names of the victims cannot be made public.

“Who doesn’t know that and that is what Justice Hema has conveyed to the Vijayan government through a letter. This clearly shows that Vijayan and the state government have an agenda not to disclose the names of the accused. The CPI-M is always known to shield wrongdoers if they are close to the CPI-M,” Satheesan said.

“Hema never said that the report should not be released, she said that if the report is released, it should be released as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court. Also, Section 21 of the POCSO Act clearly states that if a person fails to report an incident or take appropriate action after coming to know about it, he can be jailed. In this case, the report clearly mentions the violation that took place, but neither Vijayan nor the previous Films Minister AK Balan who received the report nor the current Minister Saji Cherian failed to take action,” Satheesan added.

What has become a joke now is that Vijayan says that the government is going to hold a film conclave. The funny thing is that the victims, the accused and everyone else are sitting together and discussing with each other.

“We are clear, we want the culprits to be brought to justice. We demand an investigation by a team of Kerala Police led by a woman IPS officer. It is a criminal act and with the entire evidence in a pen drive, Vijayan says there is no complaint. We will not sit idle, we will wait for some time to see what action comes; if not, we will take appropriate action,” Satheesan added.

“We want to remind Vijayan that he has a legal obligation and he has to do this,” Satheesan said.
