Tanushree Dutta criticizes Hema committee report on sexual harassment

What’s the story?

Tanushree Dutta, the actor who spearheaded the #MeToo movement in India, has criticised the recent Hema Commission report on sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry.

The 235-page report, published Monday, revealed 17 forms of exploitation of women, including casting couch, sexual favors and threats of rape.

However, Dutta dismissed it as ‘useless’, indicating that she has no faith in such committees and reports.

‘Did it take them seven years to make a report?’: Dutta

Speaking with News18 ShowshaDutta expressed her disappointment and said, “These committees and reports, I don’t understand them. I think they are useless.”

“Did it take them seven years to make a report on what happened in 2017?”

She was referring to the 2017 incident in which a female Malayalam actor was sexually assaulted in Kochi. Actor Dileep was one of the accused.

‘People like Nana and Dileep are narcissistic psychopaths…’

Dutta added: “What is the point of this new report anyway? All they had to do was arrest the accused and enforce a strong law and order system.”

“I remember hearing about the Vishakha Committee, which came up with so many guidelines and prepared pages of reports, but what happened next? The names of the committees keep changing.”

“People like Nana and Dileep are narcissistic psychopaths. There is no cure for them,” Dutta said.

Dutta called ‘these predators’ ‘mentally ill’

Reacting to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement about the government working on a women’s safety bill, Dutta said, “This is all talk. Action is needed.”

“Who’s going to follow all that paperwork anyway? Even if they come up with a comprehensive film law, those who want to break the law will still break it.”

“These predators are all mentally ill.”

As a reminder, Dutta accused Patekar of sexual misconduct on the sets of Horn Okay please.

‘People don’t see actresses as people…’

In the interview, Dutta also added, “People don’t see actresses as human beings, they see them as morally corrupt entities – which is a very rudimentary perception – who have no right to dignity.”

“We don’t ask to be treated like queens, but we have the right to be treated with dignity and the right to protest. They use their male ego to reduce you to someone who is a burden.”
