Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 full preview trailer list

Mafia: The Old Country Still

Mafia is on its way to Sicily (2K)

GameCentral looks back at the major reveals from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024, including Dying Light: The Beast and Reanimal from the team behind Little Nightmares.

Gamescom Opening Night Live is normally not packed with big announcements compared to The Game Awards, but this year’s lineup was better than average in terms of intriguing reveals.

The event, hosted by Geoff Keighley on Tuesday, had announced most of the lineup in advance, but there were still a few surprises among the expected big names, such as the return of Peter Molyneux and Borderlands.

However, most of the time was spent giving updates on games we already knew about, with Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 showing off its campaign and Indiana Jones And The Great Circle being confirmed for PlayStation 5. You can check out all of the biggest trailers and takeaways from the show below.

Borderlands 4

Despite being leaked nearly a year ago, Gearbox Software has finally confirmed the existence of Borderlands 4. The teaser trailer gives nothing away aside from a 2025 release date, but it’s a lifeline for the franchise after the disastrous failure of the film adaptation.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6

After showing off Zombies earlier this month , Activision highlighted Black Ops 6’s campaign mode. The level shown, titled Most Wanted, is set in 1991 Washington DC during an event for future president Bill Clinton, which you infiltrate using a modified camera. It’s Call Of Duty turned up the drama, with guided throwing knives and a motorcycle chase scene.

Directive 8020

The next installment in Supermassive Games’ Dark Pictures Anthology is a cinematic survival horror set in space, featuring a creature reminiscent of The Thing. It’s set to star Lashana Lynch, best known for her role as Maria Rambeau in The Marvels, and is set for release in 2025.

Reanimal

Tarsier Studios, the creators behind Little Nightmares, have revealed their next game that shares the same creepy platformer DNA. The horror adventure, which follows a brother and sister’s journey across an island, can be played solo or in co-op. It is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC at an undisclosed date.

Civilization 7

The first look at Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 debuted at Gamescom, which is set for release on February 11th of next year. Following the presentation, Game Of Thrones actor Gwendoline Christie was announced as the in-game narrator, following in the footsteps of Sean Bean, William Morgan Sheppard and Leonard Nimoy.

Monument Valley 3

Another sequel to puzzle game Monument Valley is coming exclusively to Netflix on December 10. The previous two games will also hit the streaming service on September 19 and October 29, respectively, with more promised during Netflix Geeked Week next month.

Starfield: Shattered Space

The first expansion for Starfield was given a September 30th release date in a short horror-inspired trailer. A new Rev-8 ground vehicle was also shadowdropped in a free update, adding the ability to soar over planets using Rocket League-style thrusters.

Little Nightmares 3

At the same event where Little Nightmares creators Tarsier Studios showed off their new game, Supermassive Games’ next installment also got a new trailer. In an odd twist of fate, Little Nightmares 3 will also add co-op, as you control characters Low and Alone. It doesn’t look quite as grimy as Reanimal, but it looks to have its own distinct flavor with desert and carnival settings. It’s set to release in 2025 on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Mafia: The Old Country

Set in 1900s Sicily, Mafia: The New Country served as the series’ big announcement, though little was revealed about the title. “Discover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: The Old Country, a gritty mafia tale set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily,” the description reads. More news is promised in December, likely at The Game Awards.

Monster Hunter Wilds

There have been a ton of trailers already, but Capcom has given another glimpse of Monster Hunter Wilds, coming out next year. It looks like the true Monster Hunter World sequel everyone has been hoping for, complete with a terrifying new spider.

Dune Awakening

The open-world survival MMO gets a five-minute gameplay burst, hopping between a character creator, the sandworms of Arrakis and base-building tools. It looks to take a lot of cues from Mass Effect, but the desert itself might be the biggest star here. Dune: Awakening is set to launch on PC in early 2025.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Troy Baker’s performance as Indiana Jones takes center stage in a new trailer for The Great Circle. There’s not much new to see (check out our preview for more details), but we now have an official release date of December 9th on Xbox and PC, and spring 2025 on PlayStation 5.

Dying Light: The Beast

A new standalone Dying Light game has been officially revealed, set in a “tautly designed rural region”. It features the same parkour movement and combat as other Dying Light games, and brings back original protagonist Kyle Crane. Developer Techland has described it as a “slightly more compact” open-world adventure that “feels very similar” to other entries in the series.

Batman: Arkham Shadow

If you’re desperate for something VR-related, the event showed off the first gameplay for Batman: Arkham Shadow. Set between Batman: Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum, it pits Bruce Wayne against the cult-like villain, the Rat King. It’s scheduled to launch on Meta Quest 3 in October.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

After being delayed until February of next year, a short trailer for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was shown at Gamescom. This was followed by a 25-minute post-event gameplay showcase, embedded above, showing off the recreation of 15th century Bohemia.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

The creators of Life Is Strange have shown off the first gameplay for their new narrative title, which follows four high school girls in the ’90s. It will be released in two parts, with ‘tape one’ releasing on February 18th, followed by the second on March 18th for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Masters of Albion

Peter Molyneux has debuted his studio’s new god game (check out the trailer here ), which looks like a mash-up of Fable, Black And White, and Dungeon Keeper. It doesn’t look particularly original, but with many of the developers behind those games returning, there may be some reason for optimism.

While these were the biggest announcements, other titles were also shown off, including Revenge Of The Savage Planet and King Of Meat.

Still from Masters Of Albion
