Mafia The Old Country Release Date, Trailer & More

What is the release date of Mafia The Old Country? After eight years in New Bordeaux in the late 1960s, developer Hangar 13 is finally bringing us back to where it all began. That’s right, we’re hopping from continent to continent for the next big Mafia installment, swapping the streets of America for the vineyards of Sicily, but that doesn’t mean wine is the only liquid you can stain your hands with.

Mafia The Old Country promises to explore the criminal origins of Mafia and is being designed as a gritty prequel to the beloved mafia series, so don’t be surprised to see a few familiar, albeit younger, faces in the new PC game. Read on for everything we know about the game so far, and when you can expect a Mafia The Old Country release date.

Mafia The Old Country Release Date

Mafia The Old Country will release between Tuesday, April 1, 2025 and Wednesday, December 31, 2025. 2K confirmed the release date in a press release coinciding with the game’s reveal trailer at Gamescom 2024. Mafia The Old Country will be available on PC via Steam, and on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

The press conference states that Mafia The Old Country will release “in 2025 (during Take-Two’s 2026 fiscal year).” Take-Two’s fiscal year begins on April 1, which leads to the window above. We can make an educated guess as to when we can expect The Old Country to release based on Hangar 13’s previous Mafia releases. Mafia 3 released on October 7, 2016, while Mafia Definitive Edition launched on September 25, 2020. As such, we’re currently eyeing a late September or early October 2025 release.

Until Hangar 13 and 2K confirm a more concrete window, you can at least head over to the game’s Steam store page and add it to your wishlist. It won’t do much for a while other than tease you slightly, but at least you have something to look forward to. The Steam page also notes that a “closer look” at the game will be offered in December 2024, so mark your calendars.

Mafia The Old Country Trailer

The only trailer we’ve seen for Mafia The Old Country so far is the official reveal teaser from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. Featuring gorgeous graphics, fine wine, and a hefty sawn-off shotgun, this sneak peek of what’s to come sets the tone for the game.

While we already know The Old Country is set in 1900s Sicily, this is hinted at in the very first shot of the trailer, as we see a bottle of wine sitting on a table with “Sicilla” written on it and dated “1903” – a nice vintage, we’re sure. We see the back of a mysterious figure walk across the camera at the end of the trailer, though their identity is never confirmed.

From what we know about the Mafia, there is a good chance that this figure is a younger Don Salieri. After all, he emigrated from Sicily to America in 1908, five years after the date on the wine bottle. If that is the case, then we can assume that the narrator is Don Peppone, delivering a monologue about Salieri’s inauguration into the Peppone family after settling in Lost Heaven.

Mafia The Old Country is set in the “brutal underworld” of 1900s Sicily, according to the reveal trailer’s press release. While specific storylines haven’t yet been confirmed, Hangar 13 has established that we’re in for a fight for survival, “with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for.”

To cement the studio’s promise to bring us a classic mafia story, Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes promises a return to “the roots of what fans love about the franchise, creating a deep, linear story with that classic mafia movie feel, visiting a stunning new setting, and delivering it all in a tight, focused package that’s perfect for fans of immersive experiences.”
