Suspected child exploiter "ChrisLewd" Arraigned in LA after Phoenix arrest

Christopher Michael Loza, a fugitive wanted by the Ventura County Child Exploitation Task Force, was arraigned Monday in a federal court in Los Angeles following his arrest in Phoenix on child exploitation charges. According to a press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Loza is charged with, among other things, attempted enticement of a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity and possession of child sexual abuse material.

Loza, also known by his online alias “ChrisLewd,” was initially charged in January 2024 and allegedly had contact with an undercover police officer he believed was a 15-year-old girl. The indictment includes Loza’s messages, one of which asked the officer’s age, saying, “How old are you…I’m 45. Is that okay?” He was arrested after he failed to appear for his arraignment on state charges and fled, presumably in the wake of the task force. Loza’s arrest was the result of efforts by the Phoenix Police Department and the FBI’s Phoenix Division, which ultimately resulted in him being returned to Los Angeles for his court appearance.

The Ventura County Child Exploitation Task Force, which conducted the investigation, is comprised of professionals from several law enforcement agencies, including the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI’s Ventura Resident Agency. Members of this coalition have focused their efforts on combating child exploitation and human trafficking, demonstrating dedication through education, enforcement, and partnerships between local, state, and federal agencies. The Phoenix Police Department also played a key role in assisting with Loza’s transport.

At his initial court appearance on Monday, the government’s request to hold Loza in federal custody was granted and a trial date was set for October 7. If convicted, Loza faces the maximum sentence of life in prison under the law. The case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.
