Mafia: The Old Country will not feature a full Italian dub, despite being set in Italy

It seems that the recently announced Mafia: The Old Country will not feature a full Italian voiceover, despite the fact that it is set in Sicily and the fact that previous games in the series have featured Italian audio.

On the Steam page for The old countrywe can see that the game will offer a full dubbing in English, French, Spanish and German, as well as Russian. Italian players, however, will have to content themselves with interface translations and subtitles.

A quick look at the Steam pages for the first three games in the series (or at least the Definitive Edition remake of the first game) shows that they all have a full Italian dub, making The old country the first game in the franchise that did not offer this convenience.

Mafia: The Old CountryThe lack of an Italian dub feels somewhat ironic.

It’s worth noting that we don’t know much about The old country Not yet. It is possible that the lack of Italian dubbing is due to translation issues; for example, if characters in the game speak both Italian and English, a dub could be difficult to implement.

It’s also ironic, though, that the first game in the series to seemingly take place entirely in Italy will not have an Italian dub. One might imagine that the mafiosi depicted in the game would take offense to such a decision, as humorous as it may be.

If you are not familiar with Mafia: The Old Countryit is the latest entry in the Mafia series. Announced during yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, the game is a prequel set in the 1900s, and will shed light on the “brutal underworld” of Sicily at the time.
