Former Gilman School teacher refuses to leave prison for trial on sex abuse allegations

This morning, the child pornography trial of former Gilman teacher Christopher Bendann was delayed after he refused to leave his cell at the detention facility. Judge James K. Bredar ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to bring him to court for trial.

The suspect is accused of multiple counts of sexual exploitation of minors and possession of child pornography while working at the Gilman School in North Baltimore.

The former eighth-grade history teacher at Gilman allegedly worked for the elite private boys’ school from 2007 to 2023. He was employed by the school at the time of the allegations. According to court documents, the victim was one of Bendann’s students.

Bendann continues to maintain his innocence and must remain in custody until his trial.
