Hafiz Naeem criticizes PPP governance in Sindh

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for what he calls “the worst governance” in Sindh, accusing the party of turning into a “group of feudal lords and families.”

In a scathing attack on Wednesday, Rehman said: “The PPP, once a party, has now become a group of a few feudal lords. They have taken over the mayorship of Karachi without winning the mandate. The time has come to rid the nation of this occupying mafia.”

Rehman announced that JI will launch a nationwide public outreach campaign from September 1 and hold a nationwide strike on August 28 against rising electricity prices and unfair taxes. He said, “The government should provide relief to the people, and no other party stands up for the rights of the public like Jamaat-e-Islami.”

Meanwhile, JI Karachi leader Munim Zafar Khan revealed that the party’s local government representatives would hold a protest outside the KMC headquarters on MA Jinnah Road on August 24. The demonstration will highlight the mayor’s incompetence, dilapidated roads and the failure to devolve resources and powers to the city and union council levels.

Khan said: “This will not be the first or the last protest. If the Sindh government and the ‘occupying’ mayor do not correct their course, we will continue our demonstrations at all levels.”

He also criticised the Sindh government for its mishandling of the Red Line project, accusing it of neglecting Karachi despite receiving significant federal funds. “The city’s crumbling infrastructure, water scarcity and garbage-filled streets are evidence of the government’s incompetence,” Khan added.

Khan further denounced the surreptitious hike in water and sewerage bills and condemned the imposition of municipal utility charges in electricity bills, calling it a betrayal of the city’s residents.
