GTA 6, Mafia 4, Borderlands 4 and more make 2025 ‘the best year in gaming history’

Video games coming out in 2025 have led some players on social media to claim that next year “could be the best year in gaming history.”

2024 has been a fairly quiet year for game releases, despite the success of Helldivers 2, Dragon Dogma II,Stellar Blade and a few others.

It appears the big three console manufacturers have been working on things other than games themselves, with Sony potentially having a plan in store for the PS5 Pro later this year, Xbox prioritizing Game Pass, and Nintendo seemingly prioritizing work on the Switch 2.

There has been a lot of hype for GTA 6 but the first trailer released in December 2023 revealed the game would be released in 2025, which has since been shortened to Fall 2025.

But the first day at Gamescom, a video game trade fair in Cologne, Germany, running from August 20 to 25, already seems to offer players a lot to look forward to.

Among the announcements for games coming so far in 2025 are: Mafia: The Old Country, Borderlands 4 And Dying Light: The Beast.

The news about these games, along with the reveals of updates to existing games, has players eagerly anticipating what’s to come.

A tweet that went viral read: “2025 could very well be the best year in gaming history.”

Another agreed and said, “Mafia & GTA 6 in the same year is INSANE. I can’t wait for next year.”

One of them posted the games confirmed for 2025 and said it would be “a GOAT’d year for gaming.” The list is huge.

Another calls 2025 ‘too much’.

One message about a new Dying light game announced at Gamescom, saying, “It’s finally here bro holy s**t. 2025 could be one of the best years in gaming history with all these games being announced.”

Another agreed: “2025 has the potential to be the best year in gaming history.”

And all this is just after the first day of Gamescom…
